The Matisse brand is a good example of the research that is an important part of the branding process. A lot of time was spent at the Matisse Olive Grove getting a feel for the project, the property and an understanding of the process of creating Olive Oil.

The name had already been selected by the client, and it inspired the style of the brand. Henri Matisse, recognised as one of the greatest artists of last century - with many styles to challenge a designer - had developed a unique style of collage.

Seeking to emulate this style, Gumption developed a brand that reflected the Matisse Olive Grove. The slopes in the illustration reflect the slopes of the grove, and even the trees are angled in the illustration as they have been shaped on the farm by the winds of the region. The sun, pure energy and goodness, shines brightly in the top corner, its shape reflected in the seedling about to be planted. It acknowledges the pureness of the oil.

It's a brand with many facets and that inspires the owners of Matisse, and those that see the bottles on the shelves.
